Bryston
Bryston was originally a manufacturer of high tech blood analyzers that began business in 1962. In 1976 James Tanner purchased a pair of Dayton Wright electrostatic speakers which his current amplifiers were having a heck of a time driving. So, using high-tech and sophisticated parts, we modified the amplifier and boy it sounded terrific! We then decided to build an amplifier with no holds barred, from scratch, using medical grade parts. Bryston was born!

Now Bryston introduces the 21B³-an amplifier dedicated to bringing Cubed Series excellence to an easy to manage package. Each 21B³ has 3 channels. One is rated at 600 watts, the other two are rated at 300 watts each. Active loudspeaker customers will use the high powered channel for the bass section and smaller channels for the midrange and high frequency sections of their 3 way systems. Since the 21B³ is based on our 7B³ and 4B³ amps, it can also be used to power any 3 channels such as the front LCR in a home theatre.

Digital Crossover
The BAX-1 is our new state of the art digital crossover. Specially programmed at the factory for full compatibility with our loudspeaker models, the BAX-1 is a perfect fit for your Bryston active system. Composed of two channels of analog to digital conversion, the BAX-1 converts full range analog audio from your preamplifier, to an equivalent digital audio signal (sampled at 96kHz and decimated to 24 bits). This signal is passed to a high-powered DSP core which performs the 3-way crossover function for each channel, and applies any user selected filters for altering the bass response of the loudspeakers. Six bands of audio (three per channel) are passed to six digital to analog converters, which then feed six amplifier channels (three per loudspeaker) via six balanced analog outputs.
Fully active loudspeaker systems dispense with passive crossovers found in conventional loudspeakers in favor of inserting the crossovers before the amplifier. The benefits include increased flexibility of filter shapes, the ability to make fine-grained adjustments resulting in improved on and off axis response (these are often competing objectives in passive loudspeakers), direct coupling of the amplifier to the driver (avoiding losses inherent in passive crossovers), and higher SPL with lower distortion.

Bryston's new BP-2 phono preamplifier applies our extraordinary low-distortion, wide bandwidth amplification to your record collection. Available in either MM (moving magnet) only or MM/MC (adds moving coil), the BP-2 is a perfect match for most available cartridges today. Both versions include switchable capacitive loading for use with moving magnet cartridges.
The MM/MC version adds a pair of ultra low distortion, wide bandwidth step-up transformers (the same ones used in our TF-2) to add compatibility with low output moving coil carts. The transformers can be factory wound for an additional 20dB or 31dB of gain.
Power the BP-2 from your existing Bryston MPS-2 DC power supply or from the new PS-3 DC power supply.
